The Sunday XI confirmed promotion to Division B of the Newark Alliance next season with a thrilling victory over nearest challengers Clumber Park. Clumber batted first and were restricted to 152, Captain Darren Wright leading the way with 4 wickets. With 8 bowlers used in total, this epitomised the 2014 season, with all involved getting a game and a chance to perform. Brinsley Kirkham notched up another Sunday 50 in reply and Rich Lee was there at the end to ensure victory with just a ball to spare.
So promotion is confirmed and 2 more points will ensure it's as Champions. A fabulous effort by Darren and the team to achieve back to back promotions.
The 1st XI had a chastening day at Wollaton. A woeful batting performance and not much better with the ball saw them crash to a 9 wicket defeat. With one game remaining (at home to Gedling Colliery), relegation is a distinct possibility, even a victory may not be enough to save them, but a defeat might! It really is tight down there with the thickness of a 'fag packet' splitting the bottom three (Balderton, Cavaliers and Calvo), with Long Eaton virtually safe fourth from bottom.
The 2nds scored over 200 for the third consecutive game but it was not quite enough as they went down by 3 wickets to Basford Mill. With just 2 games remaining, relegation (although not mathematically certain) is almost a certainty.
