No it’s not a new brand of squash, it’s what happened on the opening Saturday of the 2015 SNCL season at GLA!
Having won the toss, visitors Carrington elected to bat first on a sunny/showery day. It soon became apparent that the wicket was (as per last season) good to bat on. Carrington had a good start moving the score along to 80 before ‘spin twins’ Brinsley Kirkham and Captain Daz Wright took three quick wickets between them. A hefty shower or two saw the players back in the Pav for around 45 minutes in total and with a wet ball to bowl with Carrington had a splendid fourth wicket partnership of almost 100. With a large total looming, it was all credit to the Calverton bowlers that 180-3 became 211-8 from the full allocation of 48 overs. Darren Wright with two further wickets, assisted by Kyle Welch also grabbing two and smart catching and a run out and 211 on a good track was a pretty good effort by the fielding side. After tea (and with the clock already on 5.35pm) the biggest issue was would the game finish. Either Carrington would need to take 10 wickets or Calverton would need to push the accelerator as there wouldn’t be enough time to bowl 48 overs in the gloomy light. Fortunately, the latter happened. Scotty & Deano opened up and made a positive start thanks to a plethora of wides. When Deano was adjudged LBW for 17, Eddie Lee joined Scotty and that was that. With 18 overs still remaining the target was passed comfortably, Scott ending up on 88 not out and Eddie 74 not out. Full scorecard here So 20 points and ‘top of the league’! :-) MOM Scott Andrew/Ed Lee – Domination! Please note a change of venue for this Sunday's opening Newark Alliance fixture against Kimberley Institute CC.
This game will now be played at GLA with a 1PM start. |
