Not since the game against Clifton on the 17th June (a month ago), have the 1st XI put out a team remotely resembling full strength. Unsurprisingly the results have taken a downturn, the latest setback being a defeat at the hands of Hoveringham.
Batting first, Calverton's innings never really got going with just two batsmen getting passed 20 as the total limped along to 175 all out with two overs unused. The fielding and bowling performance mirrored the effort with the bat with catches going down and the bowling rather erratic. Hoveringham breezed passed the target with 8 wickets and over 20 overs to spare.
Despite the recent poor results, the way the other games have panned out, amazingly we still sit in the promotion places. With just 7 games remaining, the promotion destiny is still very much in our own hands, with a few more bodies available who knows what may happen!
