A number of aborted attempts to start the match eventually saw the game start behind schedule and with the home team not willing to reduce the overs prior to the game commencing, meant that it was still a 100 overs game.
Ellerslie batted first and were soon in trouble as a fine opening burst from Billy & Nathan reduced the hosts to 39-4 on a wicket which certainly suited the bowlers. A long delay then followed for rain (barely) which saw the game fall even further behind schedule. The only likely way a result would therefore have been possible would for Ellerslie to have been skittled out cheaply or declare anytime after 30 overs. Neither happened thanks in the main to Ellerslie number 4 Vladev with a fine 76 not out. He was the only batsmen to shine as Kyle Welch wreaked havoc amongst the lower order taking 5-38 including a hat trick - all of his victims being bowled. So as tea (or was it supper) finally arrived as darkness called, Ellerslie were bowled out for 180 in the 49th over.
The resumption saw Calverton's usual opening pair parted quickly, but a partnership of 68 between Darren Wright & Ed Lee in good time put us in with a 'sniff'. From the outset it was apparent that there would be enough light for around 30-35 overs depending on the over rate. However, when Eddie holed out looking to increase the rate further & Billy A followed very quickly afterwards, any slim chances of forcing a win disappeared. Stumps were eventually drawn after 30 overs with the score on 118-4. Very frustrating indeed!
