By complete contrast, the 2nds have suffered two defeats - one hammering and an agonising one wicket defeat.
At Long Eaton, conceding 220 runs was always going to be a tall order and a poor batting display saw us subside to 83 all out. Just one point gained from a miserable day at the office!
Chilwell visited GLA yesterday and the old adage of 'Catches win Matches' was never truer. Batting first, Wag and the returning Cal Jayes got us off to a good start putting on 50 for the first wicket. When Wag was out, Jarrod & Cal continued the good work and as the score approached 100 the game changed. Firstly Jarrod and then the Chairman perished to two wonderful catches that had no real right to be taken. From a position of strength the innings tailed away to 174 all out and criminally 7 unused overs.
The bowling was better with Jarrod (4 wickets) and Cal (3) keeping us ahead of the game, but dropped catches were to prove costly as Chilwell's 10 & 11 saw them home Ina nail biting finale. So, just the 6 points to show, but it really should have been 19. Fielding practice required!!
MOM; Cal Jayes, 61 & 3-24 - good comeback!
