Calverton Cricket Club are delighted to announce a new, exciting catering arrangement. The teas for the season will be provided by Charlene's Kitchen, 58 Main Street, Calverton.
Charlene's Kitchen Facebook Page Proprietor, Charlene Jennings, said, "Having just opened my own business in the village, it's exciting to be involved with one of the top cricket clubs in the County" Chairman, Derek Pickering, added, "Teas can be a tad problematic at times having to rely on the same few faces. This arrangement relieves the burden whilst giving Charlene the opportunity to expand her fabulous business" If you're in or around the village, pop in and see Charlene, you're sure of a warm welcome & (more importantly) great food! The short trip to Goosedale saw the Sunday XI get the Newark Alliance campaign off to a winning start.
On a blustery, sunny day, Notts & Arnold won the toss and batted first and never really got going thanks to a disciplined effort by all the bowlers. At one point N & A were 84-3, until chief destroyer Brinsley Kirkham got in on the act. Brins ripped out the middle order, narrowly failing to take a hat trick in the process as the hosts tumbled to 115 all out. Despite the wicket being on the slow side and an enormous boundary on one side of the field, 115 shouldn't have proved to difficult to overcome. What followed was one angry man scoring most of the runs on his own! Some of you may remember Devon Malcolm being hit whilst batting & then ripping through the South Africans? Well, en route to the game, some yob decided to drive like something that rhymes with yob too close to Scotty's car which resulted in a collision showering our opening bat with glass from the wing mirror. Despite facial lacerations and having to stand in the field for hours (thanks to Calvo's derisory over rate), the fire was obviously still raging within as he strapped 'em on.Some 27 overs later it was all over! Scotty finished on 83 not out as the target was passed, the next highest score was Extras with 11! So 4 points and a winning start to the Division 3 campaign on an eventful day at, & on the way too, Goosedale. As the game ended there was further controversy in the bar as the Man of the Match presentations were taking place. It was a close run thing as Scotty was announced MOM, but Brins felt aggrieved and stole the award from Scott. Pictured below is a grinning Brins with the 'stolen award' !! |
